Eating to Fuel Exercise - From the NY Times
Friday, 03 July 2009 12:17
The following article appeared in the New York Times yesterday and IÂ thought I'd share it with you. I have included the first few paragraphs and this linkcontains the full article.
Eating to Fuel Exercise By Tara Parker-Pope No matter what kind of exercise you do – whether it’s a run, gym workout or bike ride – you need food and water to fuel the effort and help you recover.
But what’s the best time to eat before and after exercise? Should we sip water or gulp it during a workout? For answers, I spoke with Leslie Bonci, director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a certified specialist in sports dietetics. She’s also the author of a new book, “Sports Nutrition for Coaches” (Human Kinetics Publishers, July 2009). Here’s our conversation.

Conference in Thomond Park , Saturday August 29th 2009 Some Consultants at the Mid West Regional Hospitals who are actively involved in a variety of sports are organising a conference “Update on Sports Science & Medicine” on the 29th August.   The aim is to afford persons involved in sport as coaches, managers, physios or medics an opportunity to hear some of the latest information and research relating to sports science and medicine. This will allow great access to experts in a manner that is often difficult to organise. Ample time will be given to allow questions and discussion.
RESULTS OF GER MULLANE MEMORIAL 10 K ROAD RACE, BILBOA
Sunday, 21 June 2009 09:03
Congratulations to all those involved in organising and promoting the annual 10k road race, held at Bilboa, Cappamore last Friday night. 192 runners completed the course along with 50 walkers. This is a sizeable number for a Friday night meet. The race was won by Neil Cusack in a time of 31 min 9 secs. Of interest was a local 'derby' between Bilboa and Dundrum which was won by the hosts!!. Rosemary has kindly sent me the results of the West Limerick runner and full results to follow as soon as to hand. Well done to Dermot Kearns on being the first West Limerick runner home and to Fiona Burke, our newest recruit who cruised home in 40 mins. Well done to all participants. Sorry I wasn't there.

HELL OF THE WEST TRIATHLON - VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT
Saturday, 13 June 2009 12:44
BELOW IS AN EXTRACT FROM THE LIMERICK TRIATHLON WEBSITE. FOR THOSE CLUB MEMBERS AVAILABLE TO VOLUNTEER THAT WEEKEND, PLEASE CONTACT DARRAGH. V
Dear Club Members,
This is a call out to all Club members to support your club which has supported you in the provision of first class Structured Training Sessions, Duathlon and Triathlon competitions.  We are unable to run these events without the support of our members. In specific we now need help with 'Hell of the West' 2009. We hope that all non-competing members can offer assistance marshalling for the race. I would also expect that competing club members will offer assistance with preparations the day before the race and with the large tidy down immediately after the race. We have a massive number of tasks to complete over the weekend, the total number of which comes to 247 (everything included). Please do not leave all the work to a few people, we will never turn away an offer of help. We have one of the largest clubs in the country so we should all be able to help host an excellent event.  I am currently organising, where when and how people are going to assist with the event.  Please contact me (
