National Marathon Championship Results

The results of the National Marathon Championships became available the last few weeks and I did not post the results as the website was under constructions. The team comprising of Liz Hussey, Verena Tarpey & Niamh Yelverton came fifth in the National Championships. The other members of the team were Ailbhe Healy, Bernie Barron & Patricia McNamara.
 
 
The times of the 3 scorers were as follows:
Liz Hussey 2hrs 53mins 24 secs
Verena Tarpey 3hrs 30 mins 56secs
Niamh Yelverton 3 hrs 47 mins 10 secs
 
As some of you are aware, Ailbhe Healy came home in a time of 3 hrs 30 mins but her score was not included due to a registration error which was a huge pity. Nonetheless, the overall medal position would not have changed if her score was included. We came in behind teams that have a tradition of fielding very strong teams – Raheny, Athenry, Mayo and St Finbarrs. It is a testament to the progress that West Limerick A.C has made this year alone in attracting female members to the club – two years ago, we would not have been in a position to enter teams at all!!
 
West Limerick A.C ladies are now a strong force in Munster and we should aim to challenge St. Finbarr’s next year in the Munster Half and possibly the Marathon once more.

A special congratulations must also go to BERNIE BARRON who won silver in the over 55 category – Bernie is a great supporter of West Limerick A.C. events and her achievement is all the better considering she is relatively new to the running scene. Well done Bernie.
