WEST LIMERICK AC 11/01/12 AGM Report There were over twenty members present for the AGM in Rathkeale last Friday night where a very successful year was recounted. Success was measured on the competition field but also, and more importantly perhaps, in the high level of participation. There are over 60 members of the club at present and almost a third are female. The Tuesday night sessions organised by Joe Chawke in UL have attracted many new people into the sport and the more recent Saturday morning sessions at 9.00am in Ballinruane Wood, Kilmeedy, organised by Ger Guina and Mike Cussen, are having the same effect. Anyone is welcome to attend these sessions and all levels are catered for. Beidh fáilte romhat. Registration Existing members and new athletes are reminded of the €20 registration fee. Almost all of this goes to the AAI at national level but it is vital for insurance purposes. It is hoped to have an on-line facility set up in the near future for registration but in the meantime committee members are happy to pass it on to the registrar.

The Tom Walsh Memorial 10k Run and 5k Walk is planned for the 22nd Jan 2012 at 2pm in Caherconlish, Co. Limerick.

All are welcome to participate in this inaugural event which is anticipated to have something for everyone.

The late Tom "The runner" Walsh of Ballyvourneen, Caherline won over 200 races in Ireland, England and Scotland during his long racing career.

Tom Walsh was born in July 1918, known as the Barefooted Runner, of Ballyvourneen, will forever be immortalised in the stone memorial unveiled here in Caherline, a place that was very dear and close to his heart and to where he brought honour, pride and much enjoyment durning a long and illustrious athletics career.

That career spanned three decades with athletic prowess on the running fields and tracks of Ireland and abroad during the 1930's, 40's and 50's which inspired many a young athlete in the past and hopefully inspire you to run or walk in this event on the 22nd Jan 2012.

I am getting a lot of enquries about the track sessions. They are resuming on Tuesday, 17th January at usual time of 6.45pm for 7pm. NO TRACK SESSIONS ( AT LEAST FORMAL ONES WITH JOE) UNTIL THEN. Verena Don't forget that annual subs are now due. € 20 per member please.
